The Expo '98 , World Expo 1998 , or, officially, Lisbon International Exhibition in 1998 ,  the theme "The Oceans : A Heritage for the Future", held in Lisbon , Portugal from May 22 to of September 30 of 1998 . It had the purpose of commemorating the 500 years of the Portuguese Discoveries .
