The stamp represents Vermont with skier. The postcard shows skiers on a snowy slope, perfectly

matching Vermont’s reputation as a winter sports destination. The cancellation from Wilmington, ensures thematic and geographic concordance, although the temporal alignment is not perfect since the postmark date is more than a year after the stamp’s issue date.

Justification of Maximum Concordance: This maximum card demonstrates excellent thematic, geographic, and temporal concordance. The stamp, issued for the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood, features artwork by Herb Kawainui Kane showing a surfer and canoe. The postcard complements this theme perfectly with a vintage illustration of a surfer at a Hawaiian beach, a popular activity in the region. The postmark from Honolulu, HI, applied on the official first day of issue (August 21, 2009), ensures perfect geographic and temporal alignment.

Futebol Clube do Porto: Um Legado Desportivo Celebrado em booklet de Selos

 

Os CTT – Correios de Portugal lançam, a 10 de abril, uma coleção de selos personalizados em homenagem ao Futebol Clube do Porto, fundado em 1893. Embora seja mais conhecido pelo seu sucesso no futebol, com 30 títulos nacionais, duas Ligas dos Campeões e duas Taças Intercontinentais, o clube da cidade Invicta é também uma referência noutras modalidades. Destacam-se o andebol, basquetebol, hóquei em patins, voleibol, eSports e desporto adaptado, onde o FC Porto continua a somar conquistas. Conhecido como “os dragões” ou “azuis e brancos”, o clube é símbolo de excelência e paixão desportiva. A coleção inclui quatro selos com validade postal até ao final de 2027. 

França em Sydney 2000: Um Tributo Olímpico em Selos

 

Emitido em 11 de setembro de 2000, o selo francês “Sydney 2000” celebra os Jogos Olímpicos realizados na Austrália. Com valor facial de 3 francos (0,46 €), foi impresso em héliogravura e lançado em folhas de 30 selos ou em blocos de cinco pares. A emissão destaca várias modalidades olímpicas, como ciclismo, esgrima, atletismo, judo e mergulho, com imagens dinâmicas captadas por fotógrafos desportivos. O design é de Marc Taraskoff, com contribuições visuais de Aurélie Baras. Esta emissão filatélica reflete o espírito olímpico e a diversidade do desporto, homenageando os atletas e a união entre nações através dos valores dos Jogos: “Citius, Altius, Fortius” — mais rápido, mais alto, mais forte.

CTT – Correios de Portugal, in partnership with Canal Panda, launched a collection of personalized stamps to mark the 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place in the French capital, Paris.

The collection consists of a booklet of 18 stamps.  Each of the stamps, amusingly, alludes to a sport: Handball, Football, Weightlifting, Surfing, Rings, 100 metres, Volleyball, Show Jumping, Cycling, Floor, Sailing, Pommel Horse, Rowing, Judo, Long Jump, Table Tennis, Hammer Throw and Swimming.

In this collection, Panda and his Friends set out to win medals, the theme of the Panda Festival 2024, with Panda playing football, Crocas practicing weightlifting, Kinkas playing handball and Micas practicing surfing.

During this summer of Olympic Games, Canal Panda embraces Olympic and Paralympic sport, with the Panda 2024 Festival, dedicated to the theme, available from July 24th exclusively on Panda+, the streaming platform dedicated to younger viewers, and with the Panda Sport program, which premieres on Canal Panda on the opening day of the Games, in which Portuguese Olympic and Paralympic athletes explain to Panda what it is like to represent Portugal at the highest level.

The Panda Festival 2024 has the official support of the Portuguese Olympic Committee.

The Olympic Games, the world's biggest sporting competition, start on July 26 and run until August 11.

We can all agree that peace is important. There are, however, objective differences as to the true meaning of the term. For some, it means the absence of violence or war, but for others it is understood as a serene and calm state of mind, living in harmony and tranquillity.
These meanings of the word peace, in fact, are complementary and function at different levels of the social complex, according to the framework created by the religious beliefs, social theories or other superstructures that are prevalent in each society.
Peace can be defined in binary language (it does or does not exist) or in terms of continuous adaptive processes. It can be empirical and abstract or more specifically legislated by international rules, such as peace treaties.
Within this range of meanings, however, peace tends to be found in harmony with concepts such as justice, freedom and equality. And it positions itself in opposition to other concepts such as violence, abuses of power and social conflicts.
Peace is thus part of the fabric that links human relationships all around the world. And the multiple scope of its meanings is defined by the relationship it maintains with other divisive themes – positive and negative −, in each historical moment and in each society.
We are all eager to achieve a state of security and calmness that emerges in the absence of conflict. And it is a paradox that we still retain that universal eagerness in today's war-torn world. Without peace, it will not be possible to achieve the levels of trust, cooperation and inclusion necessary for societies to face natural disasters arm in arm, to resolve their disputes and adapt to environmental changes, prioritising harmony and freedom.
The true secret for us to achieve peace is to create a community that respects others and is tolerant and inclusive, one that does not allow behaviour such as discrimination, intolerance of differences or violation of the social rules of coexistence.
For all these reasons, peace has always been among the highest values of humanity, and for some is even the greatest value of all.
