Philatelic issue, with five different protected areas in Portugal and respective stamps, namely: Montesinho Natural Park, Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Serras Natural Park de Aire e Candeeiros, the Guadiana Valley Natural Park and the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
According to Nuno Miguel S. Banza, President of the Board of Directors of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, “the National Network of Protected Areas is the repository of biodiversity
in Portugal, and these areas have, due to their rarity, scientific, ecological, social or scenic value, a special relevance. The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests is the guardian of this wealth and promotes its conservation through the rational management of natural resources and the enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage. On the Portuguese continent there are 48 Protected Areas, spread over a national park, 14 natural parks, 11 nature reserves and 14 protected landscapes, nationally and regionally, seven natural monuments and a private protected area, all of which deserve to be visited and experienced.
This philatelic issue consists of five stamps, two with a face value of €0.54, and the others with a face value of €0.84, €0.88 and €0.91 and a circulation of 100,000 copies each. The design of the stamps was in charge of Carla Caraça Ramos. The first-day obliterations will be carried out in Restauradores stores in Lisbon, Municipality II in Porto, Zarco in Funchal and Antero de Quental in Ponta Delgada.
