Postcard: Vintage color postcard illustrating the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, New York Harbor, shown in frontal view with the full pedestal resting on Fort Wood. The monument dominates the composition, with the American flag visible in the foreground and auxiliary buildings at the base of the island. The caption at the top reads “STATUE OF LIBERTY – NEW YORK CITY”, clearly identifying the subject and location. Edition: Colourpicture Publication, Boston.

Concordance:

There is strong thematic concordance, as both the stamp and the postcard depict the Statue of Liberty, a central national symbol of the United States. Iconographic concordance is excellent, with the monument clearly identifiable in both elements. Geographic concordance is also excellent, since the cancellation was applied in New York City, the precise location of the monument represented. Temporal concordance is very good, with postal use consistent with the period of validity of the stamp and the postcard. Although the stamp is not obliterated by the killer of the duplex cancel, the postal marking remains clear and identifiable. Overall, this item fulfills the thematic, geographic, and temporal criteria required for a maximum card.
