Country: USA
Issue: Rhode Island Windmill – Americana Series
Date of Issue: Feb 2, 1980
Postmark: 4 Bar cancel – Jamestown – Apr 6 1992
Postcard: Color photograph of the historic Jamestown Windmill, a wooden structure with shingled walls and a domed roof, surrounded by lush green vegetation under a clear blue sky. The windmill’s large lattice-style sails dominate the foreground, and an old millstone rests on the grass nearby. The caption at the bottom reads “The Jamestown Windmill,” identifying the landmark. (Edition John T. Hopf)
Justification of Maximum Concordance:
Thematic and geographic concordance are excellent: both the stamp and the postcard depict the Jamestown Windmill, a historic Rhode Island landmark, and the cancellation is from Jamestown, the windmill’s actual location. Temporal concordance is acceptable, although the cancellation date (1992) does not match the official issue date (1980), the stamp was still valid and in circulation at the time of use.
