Issue: Cloudscapes – Cumulonimbus with Tornado – 37¢
Date of Issue: Oct 10, 2004
Postmark: Pictorial cancellation – TWISTER MUSEUM STATION – WAKITA, OKLAHOMA 73771 – MAY 28, 2005
Postcard: Dramatic color photograph of a tornado funnel descending from a dark cumulonimbus cloud over a rural Oklahoma landscape at sunset. The swirling column of dust and debris is illuminated by the fading light, creating a striking and intense atmospheric scene. The caption “Oklahoma” appears prominently at the top in elegant script, reinforcing the state identity. (Edition Prairie Production Co.)
Justification of Maximum Concordance:
Excellent thematic and geographic concordance. The stamp depicts a cumulonimbus cloud with a tornado, and the postcard shows a real tornado in Oklahoma, a state historically associated with severe storms and tornado activity. The pictorial cancellation from Wakita, OK—home to the Twister Museum—provides strong geographic relevance to the tornado theme. Although the cancellation date (May 28, 2005) is several months after the official issue date (October 10, 2004), this falls within acceptable limits for maximum cards, preserving thematic and geographic alignment despite the temporal gap.
