Maximu card Cathedral of Mainz Rheinland-Pfalz (Allied Occupation)

Stamp: Rheinland-Pfalz (Allied Occupation), “Mainz – Dom”, carmine red, face value 45 Pfennig (Issue: 1947 – Buildings and Monuments of Rhineland‑Palatinate series).
The stamp shows a stylized illustration of the Romanesque Cathedral of Mainz (Mainzer Dom / St. Martin’s Cathedral), featuring its characteristic massing and robust towers.
Postmark: MAINZ – circular datestamp (CDS), partly legible, dated 22/02/1949.
Postcard: Monochrome photographic postcard titled “Mainz. Dom vom Leichhof”, depicting the architectural ensemble of the Mainz Cathedral as seen from Leichhof Square. The image highlights the Romanesque towers from different construction phases, the massive central body, and the surrounding historic buildings, including arcades and civic structures (publisher unknown).

Concordance
– Thematic: The theme of the stamp—the Cathedral of Mainz —matches exactly the subject of the postcard, which presents the same building from a photographic perspective. This ensures full thematic concordance between philatelic and pictorial elements.
– Geographic: The circular postmark from Mainz corresponds directly to the location depicted on both the stamp and the postcard, providing perfect geographic concordance and fully meeting maximaphily criteria.
– Temporal: The cancellation date (22/2/1949) falls within the postal validity period of the 1947 issue of the Rhineland‑Palatinate postal administration. The use of the stamp is therefore chronologically appropriate, ensuring temporal compliance.
